The Max-Planck-Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology in Potsdam has an opening for a
Bioinformatician
Responsibilities:
- Polymorphism (indel, confirmed SNP) detection between a reference genome of a cultivated plant species and a wild species genome to be sequenced using Illumina/Solexa
- Classification of SNPs (silent versus non silent)
- Association of SNPs to phenotypes using QTLs
- Association of SNPs with functional biological categories
- Application of SNP data to improve interpretation of cross species arrays
Qualifications:
- university degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field,
- background in statistics especially in the field of quantitative genetics and/or genomics
- strong programming skills (Java, Perl) and R,
- ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team,
- as this position is in an international team with close collaborations with Belgian and Israeli partners, fluency in English is required
- mobility and interest to staying in Belgium for prolonged periods would be a bonus
- experience with high throughput sequencing data would be very beneficial
- working knowledge of (plant) Biology, is a strong plus
The position is initially limited to one year initially. The position provides the opportunity to work in a highly multidisciplinary team, using a wide range of informatics tools and to interact with biochemists and biologists.
For more information concerning biological classification please visit http://www.gabipd.org/projects/MapMan/. For more information about the project please contact Dr. Alisdair R. Fernie (fernie _a_t_ mpimp-golm.mpg.de)
