  • SOLID analysis Newbie

    Hey Everyone,

I just completed a full 16 barcode run on the ABI Solid machine, and now have lots of data I have no clue how to analyse.

I have practically no experience in Bioinformatics, but I do know basic Linux. I also got a collaborator to run the data through the Small RNA pipeline, and got the BED files, but again, other than uploading them to UCSC Genome Browser, I dont know what the best way to look at the data is.

It seems there are now alot of development going on to get a decent SOLID analysis software. I downloaded SOLID Alignment Browser, but Im having issues getting the reference files to upload and actually align with my files. Although I did managed to use Galaxy to convert my BED files to GFF, so Im guessing thats a step forward. But at this point I cant even convert the reference files from UCSC Genome browser in the fa.gz format to .fasta format so the SAB sofware can read it!

Are there any tutorials on any of the sofware out there for beginners like me? Or can anyone help me to get me started? Is there a good newbie SOLID analysis sofware?

Please help, or please direct me somewhere I can learn at least the basics???

    Thanks!!
    E

read the documentation folders in the various pipeline installs. you are making this way more difficult than it has to be.

        Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
        by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

        Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
        by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
