  • LIMS Software Engineer Position - Harvard Medical School

    Duties & Responsibilities
    The Biopolymers Facility in the Department of Genetics of Harvard Medical School has an immediate opening for a Software Engineer. The candidate will play an active role in the development and maintenance of a web-based Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). The LIMS serves both researchers and staff functioning for ordering, experiment tracking, data distribution, and invoicing. Work with a small team to design and implement new features into an existing LIMS. Tasks include developing experiment ordering and tracking workflows, converting and migrating legacy data into new systems, creating financial reporting tools for our invoicing system,and adding experiment quality control and run static reports. Work on webpages in html and jquery, business logic using Java, Struts2, Spring, and Hibernate, as well as with an Oracle database. Perform related duties and projects as needed.
    Basic Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree in computer science. Three or more years of software development experience.
    Additional Qualifications
    MS in computer science or related field preferred. Experience with web based information management systems preferred. Solid understanding and thorough knowledge of application development and database design. Strong Java development in a web environment. Familiarity with LIMS development, Struts2, Spring, Hibernate, SQL is preferred. Strong design, programming and troubleshooting skills. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    Now days, Laboratory Information Management system plays very important role in increasing work efficiency of laboratories whether its environmental or analytical testing laboratory. But its very much necessary that people in this profession should be very familiar with the needs occurring in such work environment. Until we are not familiar with their needs we can not be a good developer.
