  • Postdoc in Langmead and Salzberg labs at Johns Hopkins Univ.

Applications are invited for an open Postdoctoral Fellow position in the laboratories of Dr. Ben Langmead and Dr. Steven L Salzberg at Johns Hopkins University. The researcher will investigate topics including: DNA sequence alignment, text indexing, compression, assembly, and parallel and cloud computing. The researcher will also develop software and methods for analyzing next-generation sequence data. There will be opportunities for the researcher to collaborate with excellent biomedical researchers at JHU.

The Langmead and Salzberg labs have a track record of developing novel methods and providing usable, high-impact software tools to the genomics community. Tools developed by current and former members of these labs include Bowtie, Bowtie 2, TopHat, Cufflinks, Crossbow, and Myrna.

Johns Hopkins has a very strong community of researchers studying methods and software for genomics. See: http://genomics.jhu.edu.

    Ideal applicants will have
    • A Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
    • Strong programming skills.
    • Experience with next-generation sequencing data.
    • Published papers in English and excellent communication skills.

Recent Advances in Sequencing Analysis Tools
    by seqadmin

The sequencing world is rapidly changing due to declining costs, enhanced accuracies, and the advent of newer, cutting-edge instruments. Equally important to these developments are improvements in sequencing analysis, a process that converts vast amounts of raw data into a comprehensible and meaningful form. This complex task requires expertise and the right analysis tools. In this article, we highlight the progress and innovation in sequencing analysis by reviewing several of the...

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...
