  • Postdoc position - Epigenomics - The University of Western Australia

Postdoctoral researcher (Research Associate/Research Assistant Professor) - Epigenomics - Ref: 4163

Epigenetics and Genomics Laboratory (Lister) - ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology and the Centre of Excellence in Computational Systems Biology, The University of Western Australia.

    3 year appointment
    Salary range: Level A $81,194 p.a., Level B $85,470 - $101,496 p.a. (plus 17% superannuation)
Closing date: Friday, 9 November 2012
    Reference number: 4163

An outstanding opportunity to be involved in exciting epigenetics and genomics research projects in a world-class research environment located in a city with exceptional quality of life.

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist to work in a vibrant multi-disciplinary team environment on epigenetics and genomics research projects. We utilize genomic, computational, genetic, molecular, and biochemical approaches in Arabidopsis, mice, humans and social insects to answer fundamental unresolved questions concerning the regulation of genomic information by epigenetic mechanisms.

The successful applicant will lead key projects that aim to understand the role and regulation of the epigenome during eukaryotic development, the temporal and spatial dynamics of DNA methylation during mammalian cellular differentiation, and the identity and function of proteins that read epigenetic modifications. These projects will utilize a range of molecular, genomic, biochemical and computational approaches, in particular next-generation DNA sequencing technologies for whole-genome profiling of DNA methylation, transcription, protein-DNA interactions and chromatin modifications. In addition, the appointee will be encouraged to develop their own research ideas along the lines of the research interests of the group. Ideal candidates would be interested in genome biology and epigenetics, and have significant experience in molecular biology, genomics, next-generation DNA sequencing and computational biology. Candidates must have a PhD in molecular biology or related disciplines. The position will permit extensive collaboration within the multidisciplinary and collaborative environment of the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology (PEB) and the Centre of Excellence in Computational Systems Biology. A wider aim of PEB is to promote the understanding and uptake of modern systems orientated approaches within biotech research and industry both in plant and animal sciences. Some assistance with relocation expenses (if applicable) may be negotiated.

For further information regarding the position, please email Professor Ryan Lister ([email protected]).

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
