  • Molecular Biologist

Cofactor Genomics is looking for a molecular biologist to join our sequencing group full-time.

Cofactor Genomics is a growing and rapidly evolving company seeking talented individuals to help support our next-generation sequencing operations. A privately held biotechnology company based in St. Louis, Cofactor employs experimental design, next-generation sequencing, and proprietary analysis technology and pipelines to accelerate its partners' biological research, discovery, and product development in a number of scientific areas worldwide.

Key responsibilities include (for which the hire will receive training):
Construction of Next-Generation DNA Sequencing libraries for multiple sequencing platforms
Instrument operation of multiple sequencing platforms
New and existing sequencing product development

We seek demonstrated accomplishment in the following:
    • Excellent working knowledge of molecular biology lab skills
    • Sterile technique
    • Enzymatic manipulations
    • Gel electrophoresis and extraction
    • cDNA synthesis
    • Experience working with RNA
    • PCR
    • Ability to troubleshoot and improve upon current protocols
    • Ability to communicate with both scientists and non-scientists

Experience takes precedence over educational background, but we're looking for a minimum of a Master's degree with two years of relevant experience, with a PhD preferred.

As an early hire, it is important that you mesh with Cofactor's culture of commitment, creativity, interdisciplinary thinking, assertiveness, and teamwork. We're looking for someone who learns quickly and is willing to take on challenges even if they're outside their comfort zone. You will be expected to contribute to discussions on areas across the company.

If you've read this far and are interested in the role, please send a cover letter and CV to [email protected] with the subject line Molecular Biologist. We encourage you to apply early. We intend to fill this position as soon as possible. Cofactor Genomics is an equal opportunity employer.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
