A position for a highly motivated Bioinformatics Scientist to support an interdisciplinary team of scientists is available at the Institut für Populationsgenetik, Vetmeduni Vienna, Austria (http://www.vetmeduni.ac.at/en/population-genetics/)
You will be responsible for supporting researchers with diverse bioinformatics tasks and maintaining a local Hadoop Cluster. Our Institute is renowned for cutting-edge genomics research and Next Generation Sequencing data analysis, therefore this is an unique opportunity to gain experience in these technologies that will dominate the future of biomedicine/biotechnology from the experts in the field. We will offer the possibility to pursue and publish own research projects.
Minimum requirements:
- Msc in Bioinformatics, Informatics. Computer Science or equivalent subject
- expert knowledge of Linux (Unix)
- programming skills in Python and/or R
- proficiency in English
- communicative and supportive personality
Beneficial:
- experience with computer maintenance (hardware, OS)
- experience with Hadoop
- interest in genomics research
- experience with servers
We offer a potentially permanent (tenure-track) position and an opportunity to learn Big Data analysis from the experts.
Starting date: 1.3.2017, but the exact starting date is negotiable.
Salary: scales with experience, at least 14 x 2700€/year
