  • Automation Engineer

    Description

    The Automation Engineer contributes to the development and implementation of automated systems to support the Library samples processing in a human genome sequencing application. This individual collaborates within a team of scientists and engineers upon projects to conceptualize, design, develop, and implement automated systems aimed at optimizing the performance and increasing the efficiencies of the laboratory processes prior to sequencing. This individual works independently on new projects as well as production improvements, retrofits, and instrumentation changes. Principal responsibilities of this position include project leadership and direction, building rapport with equipment vendors, coordinate with cross functional projects teams, supervise and contribute to the systems development and integration, building of prototype equipment, and the documentation for equipment validation and operating procedures. Additional responsibilities include user training, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing automated systems, especially custom-built equipment.

    Qualifications

    A BS or MS degree in engineering or closely related scientific field with a minimum of eight to ten years of experience. Technical proficiency and experience in automation and systems development and integration for the life science industry; especially with robotics and liquid handling systems. Supervisory experience is a plus. Strong project management skills, organizational skills, and written and verbal communication skills are required. Flexibility and self-initiative required to support several simultaneous automation projects. Ability to collaborate is required. Software tools development experience in one or more .Net languages (e.g. C#, and Visual Basic) and VBA is desirable. Equipment functional and validation testing, and basic electrical wiring are required. Biotech, pharmaceutical, Lab automation providers, or clinical-laboratory experience is highly desirable.
