  • Relocating MiSeq

    Dear all,

We need to make some construction work in the room where our MiSeq is located, and therefore need to shut it down, move it out of the room, and replace it inside the room.

We contacted Illumina Tech support as written everywhere but they're always "going to contact us shortly" and time is moving on. In the event that the instrument has to be moved by ourslevs (I won't be able to delay by more than a few days the start of the work...), does anyone know what measures should be taken, especially if we want the instrument to be shutdown for a few days (max one week)...

Meanhwile, I really hope the field engineer will indeed call me back as promised

Since the sequencer is a precision instrument you will take usual precautions if you had to move it. In any case it will have to be re-certified by the engineer after it is moved back in place.

This move will need a separate quote (even if you have a maintenance contract) so you may want to start with your Illumina sales person to get one. It may be best to let Illumina move the sequencer in first place since if you break something during the move you will be the one paying for the replacement of that part(s).

The field engineer called back, and we have setup this as part of the regular scheduled maintenance that was due soon, so thanks a lot for Illumina reactivity and topic closed

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
        by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

        Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
        by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
