  • Postdoc position - Computational Biologist - IMPPC, Barcelona, Spain

    Regulatory Genomics Group, IMPPC, Spain

We are looking for a post-doctoral research fellow to work on a project funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. In our new lab we are interested in chromatin organization, gene regulation, and genome evolution. We have recently analyzed genome-scale datasets to study the packaging of the human genome in the male germline, dosage-sensitivity, the stability of genetic redundancy between duplicated genes and the function and evolution of highly conserved non-coding elements. The successful candidate will use available chromatin and functional genomic datasets to study the chromatin organization at regulatory regions in animal genomes. In addition, he/she will be encouraged to develop their own research ideas along the lines of the research interests of the group.

    Recent publications:
Vavouri and Lehner. PLoS Genet. 2011. 7(4): e1002036.
Vavouri and Lehner. Bioessays. 2009. 31(7):727-35.
Vavouri et al. Cell. 2009. 138:198-208.

The research at the institute combines basic and applied research in cancer and epigenetics. The IMPPC offers excellent working conditions in attractive surroundings.

Applicants must have a PhD, excellent publication record, experience in genomics or bioinformatics and a drive for basic research. Knowledge of English is essential.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
