  • Bioinformatics postdoc position open in Singapore

My laboratory has an opening for a postdoctoral position in bioinformatics. The postdoc will be involved in the computational analysis of high throughput sequencing datasets generated primarily on the Illumina platform. These datasets can arise from RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, bisulfite sequencing, PARS, RIP-seq, or targeted sequencing experiments. We will also be performing CRISPR-based screens, where careful statistical analysis of the results is required. In addition, the postdoc will have some flexibility in defining his/her own project(s), as long as they are within our interests of systems and synthetic biology (please see www.mhtanlab.com for more details).

The successful candidate should have a PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, biostatistics, or have an extensive knowledge of Unix, R, Perl, and Python. Ideally, the candidate has past experience analyzing Illumina sequencing data. In addition, all postdoctoral candidates should have at least one first-author publication in a reputed journal and have demonstrated the ability to work well in a team. We also expect our lab members to be ambitious, self-motivated, and dedicated.

Interested candidates should submit a detailed CV to me (mh.tan at ntu.edu.sg) and a statement of why you are interested in joining our laboratory. Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit three reference letters at a later date.

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
