  • Post-Doctoral Fellowship - TGen Phoenix, AZ

The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) is a non‐profit biomedical research institute based in Phoenix, Arizona, focused on research that can help patients with cancer, neurological disorders, diabetes and other debilitating conditions. Working with a worldwide network of collaborators in the scientific and medical communities, TGen researchers study the genetic components of both common and complex diseases. Our 30 lead investigators and nearly 200 support personnel at sites in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Flagstaff, Arizona, are dedicated to improving patient care and quality of life through precision medicine, best defined as the right therapy, for the right patient, at the right time.

    Job Summary
The Pancreatic Cancer Research Program at TGen under the direction of Daniel D. Von Hoff, MD and Haiyong Han, PhD, currently has a postdoctoral fellowship position available. Our program aims to develop novel targeted therapies for patients with advanced pancreatic cancer. We employ genomic and biochemical approaches such as whole genome sequencing and tissue array immunohistochemistry to identify alterations responsible for driving the progression and/or chemoresistance of pancreatic cancer. Promising alterations are further validated for drug targeting and candidate therapies are then developed and tested in cell line and animal models. By closely working with clinicians at TGen's Clinical Services, we seek to rapidly translate laboratory findings to the clinic. Promising therapies are promptly evaluated in pilot clinical trials.

    Job Qualification
The successful candidate should be a recent PhD graduate with a strong background in molecular biology and/or biochemistry with a focus on cancer. The ideal candidate will exhibit flexibility independence and creativity with a record of scientific productivity. Previous experience in cancer animal models is preferred.

    To Apply
To apply please submit CV, a short summary of research interest and experience, and contact information for three references through TGen’s career website (Job # IRC9730).

If you are interested in applying for this position or learning more about TGen or benefits of working here, please go to http://careers.tgen.org. Only applications submitted through the TGen career website will be considered. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Haiyong Han [email protected].

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
