NGS Blogs

I follow a bunch of Life Science, NGS, and Bioinformatics blogs (see below). I am always interesting in finding new blogs related to these fields. Please post your favorite blogs here so we can collect a good set of NGS blogs.

I need my fix. Do you have any to suggest?

2007lab 05-11-2010 06:23 AM

I would like to recommend:
http://gettinggeneticsdone.blogspot.com/ (Mostly GWAS)
http://www.genomicslawreport.com/ (Ethical implications/ Law -Genomics, good coverage on the BRCA story(Myriad vs ACLU)

james hadfield 05-11-2010 12:04 PM

I like many of the suggestions so far and would add these as well...

http://www.politigenomics.com - nice post on Breast Cancer
http://zorrosgenome.wordpress.com - just how much does an Illumina cost to run?
nextgenseq.blogspot.com
http://hpcinfo.com/ - high performance computing, we all need one of those!

Hey, this is a great resource.. thanks!

A few more to add:

And after reading the latest entries for all those blogs you still have time left to do some work? ;-)

They usually have one or two posts a month and I only reads the ones that pique my interest. I am finishing up my thesis so I need some distractions :o

ECO 05-15-2010 01:56 PM

Hmmm...Their RSS feeds could be good fodder for Newsbot. :)

Maybe we need an NGS blog network?

KevinLam 05-16-2010 10:11 PM

a blog network sounds fun.

I just use google reader for simplicity and igoogle.

I guess I can publish my reader rss feeds if anyone is interested.

Michael.James.Clark 05-17-2010 02:58 PM

I started a new blog called Mendelian Disorder at http://mendeliandisorder.blogspot.com :) No promises that it's all about NGS, but I will try to put as much useful/interesting stuff as possible.

If you are asked to pick the best blog from all these choices, what would it be?
Thanks

I must admit, that is a frustrating question indeed. All of them are of high quality, so check them out!

We started a new blog at http://homolog.us

Please let us now, how we can improve ourselves.

Open the comments, I'm following.

ETHANol 08-10-2011 10:58 PM

I've started a blog. It will be my perspective on biology. My perspective being a wet lab guy that has mostly studied epigenetics, chromatin structure, transcriptional regulation and how these things effect biological pathways. And of course I'll be posting on how NGS has finally made bioinformatics cool.

http://ethanomics.wordpress.com/

BTW, great list. Reading blogs is great.

Use the akismet spam service (http://akismet.com/). Works amazing for this site. Pretty sure it's free for non-commercial sites.

samanta 08-11-2011 01:33 PM

Thank you. Will give it a try this weekend.

james hadfield 08-19-2011 05:04 AM

I also started a blog a few months back. Feel free t take a look...Core Genomics

A number of additional vendors in the space have blogs, and they are worth checking (I think these aren't above, but the list is getting long). PacBio needs to write more though!

Intuitive Genomics Blog

I've spent my summer interning with a bioinformatics analysis services company called Intuitive Genomics.

The company has been in existence for just over a year, began in Corvallis, OR and recently moved to BRDG Park on the Danforth Plant Science Center campus in St. Louis, MO.

We just recently launched our blog and I've authored our first two posts.

We're hoping to develop this as a strong resource for the bioinformatics community as it relates to the analysis of next-gen sequencing data.

Let us know what you think!

Anyone know what happened to http://ngsbuzz.blogspot.com ??? change site??
this blog had a nice map of all the NGS institute.
Do you know maybe on other blog that have this institute list? or somewhere else?
Thanks

A lot of great blogs on this list.

I made it a resolution for 2012 to start a sequencing-related blog. Have a look. (Constructive) criticism is welcome :)

http://subjectsinsequencing.blogspot.com/

DanFrost 02-29-2012 10:59 AM

Gavin - I just looked at your blog and I like the angle.

Also - good chatting with you this morning :)

gavin.oliver 02-29-2012 01:55 PM

Thanks Dan! I look forward to discussing things further.

DaleYuzuki 03-08-2012 06:04 PM

I just started a blog called 'Next Generation Technologist' that will cover NGS from a slightly different angle, that is from one of the major vendors in the life science research tools market (i.e. Life Technologies).

It is a personal blog, so there will be my 'take' on things, as well as productivity / travel / cool stuff kinds of posts as well. Do feel free to come by and take a look around, and share your comments / feedback!

It has been an adventure already, figuring out how Wordpress worked, finding an appropriate theme and plugins, and then figuring out how to use my existing webhost to cooperate. (I.e., no 'one-click installation' available for me.)

Cheers -
Dale

damiankao 03-23-2012 09:20 AM

I started a blog recently:
blog.nextgenetics.net

I've written some entries on GO analysis and data visualization using javascript. I am not a veteran of the field, just a phd student. Hopefully I'll be able to explain stuff in a more accessible way.

2007lab 02-17-2014 08:02 AM

In light of recent events, I think I would propose to add the following
http://liorpachter.wordpress.com/
(Bits of DNA where Lior Pachtor eats Bioinformaticians for breakfast, the tone and tenor are harsh, but I am learning a few things.. reallly just very few things, as most of it is still mathematics). Wish there was another blog that explained Lior's blog.

http://ecodevoevo.blogspot.com/
Anthropology and Evolution heavy blog, but also something more including a deep bias on GWAS(?)

http://contig.wordpress.com/
Lex Nederbragt's blog on NGS.

http://madhadron.com/index.html
Frederick Gross' ascerbic bioinformatics and other blog.
This one in particular made me search for antacids this morning.

Please make that flxlexblog.wordpress.com (the 'contig' one is more a manual about the newbler software). Thanks anyway!

Hi all

Hi friends,

I am new to NGS, I am very eager to know how to work with genome sequencing, any one could tell where i could develop my knowlege.. Thanks :)

Genohub 10-18-2015 04:44 AM

A good place to start are the NGS guides on Genohub:

Designing Your Sequencing Runs
Sequencing Coverage Guide
NGS Library Preparation Kit Guide
NGS Instrument Guide
