  • 4-Year SFI funded Bioinformatics PhD studentship (Dublin Ireland)

    NIBRT are seeking an enthusiastic PhD student to join the bioinformatics group to study the biology of Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells during the industrial production of therapeutic proteins. The central focus of this fully funded 4 year PhD program will be to develop bioinformatics pipelines to analyse multiple types of high throughput data (e.g. RNA-Seq and LC-MS\MS) and to improve our understanding of how CHO cell growth rate is regulated, particularly the role of microRNAs (miRNAs). The student will be expected to utilise existing software as well as developing CHO cell specific bioinformatics tools as required. The successful candidate will also collaborate closely with CHO cell biology scientists in the National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology (www.nicb.dcu.ie) to translate findings from their work into industrial practice.



    Your Profile:

    Applicants should hold or expect to receive an upper 2.1 or 1.1 degree in a relevant discipline (a good understanding of statistics and solid experience of computer programming is required). Candidates holding or expecting to receive a relevant MSc. (e.g. Bioinformatics) are particularly encouraged to apply. A biology background is advantageous but not required, training will be provided in all aspects of biology, bioinformatics and genomics required for successful completion of the programme. The ability to work as part of a team, an interest in industrially focussed research, motivation to learn new skills as well as excellent written and oral skills is essential.
