I heard a rumor that Illumina is opening a 100 HiSeq 2500 service company in the Bay Area. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, it will put everyone else out of business including BGI.

I've not heard any rumors of Illumina setting up a new company, but they've publicly stated that they will be expanding their sequencing services capacity by reopening the services group that used to exist in Hayward. Perhaps that's the source of the rumor? -
Yes, it's in Hayward but not open yet. They are focusing on human genome sequencing and Moleculo sequencing. I guess they want to put BGI's Complete Genomics company and PacBio out of business.Comment

I guess I wouldn't call that a new company, just an obvious extension of the service business they already run. They've been doing anything they can to hurt CG for a long time now, and Moleculo is another weapon for them. It's not yet clear to me exactly how damaging this will be for PacBio. I guess time will tell...Comment

Data variability is still an issue in sequencing technologies despite the advances in reproducibility and accuracy of these platforms. But the problem does not originate in the sequencing itself, but in the previous steps, before the sample reaches the sequencer.
The first step is collection, followed by preservation and sample preparation for analysis. Most scientists overlook those steps, but not being careful might just be skewing the experiment’s results.
