100 Gb Data/Day – Nextseq 500 Sequencing Services Now Available on Genohub

We're pleased to announce you can order NextSeq 500 sequencing services on Genohub.com today: https://genohub.com/shop-by-next-gen...48c30d3f93d505

We expect the highest interest to be centered around targeted sequencing (exome or custom regions) and fast RNA profiling. For exome studies, you can run between 1-12 samples in a single run and get back 4 Gb at 2 x75 or 5 Gb at a 2×100 read length. If you’re interested in RNA profiling at 10M reads per sample, you can multiplex between 12-36 samples together in a single run. A 1×75 cycle run takes as few as 11 hours to complete and 2×150 runs take ~29 hours.

Any idea if the NextSeq is more MiSeq or HiSeq-like in its tolerance for low-diversity reads (16S, small number of amplicons, etc)?

The NextSeq is less tolerant than HiSeq for low-diversity reads. NextSeq uses a two channel SBS sequencing process. It's easier for current software versions to differentiate cross-talk matrix with 4 dyes. MiSeq is still the way to go for amplicon-seq, 16S. We've written a few words about it here:
Overview of major differences between sequencing platforms/instruments, and comparison of number of reads, read type, read length and error.

Advanced Sequencing Platforms Tackle Neuroscience’s Toughest Genomics Problems
          by SEQadmin2

Genomics studies in neuroscience face a special challenge due to the brain’s complexity and scarcity of samples. Mapping changes in cell type and state using conventional next-generation sequencing methods remains challenging. Advances in technologies like single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and long-read sequencing have opened the door to deeper studies of the brain and diseases like Alzheimer’s, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and schizophrenia.

Cancer Drug Resistance: The Lingering Barrier to Rising Survival
          by SEQadmin2

Cancer survival rates have significantly increased in the last few decades in the United States, reaching a combined 70% 5-year survival rate by 2021. Behind this number, there are years of research to find new therapies, drug targets, and early detection methods. But there is one core challenge that keeps slowing down these advances, and it’s about drug resistance.

There is no single reason why many patients don’t respond to treatment as expected. Cancer is...

Reply to Nine Things a Sample Prep Scientist Thinks About Before Sequencing

Love this - good data definitely starts from good input, and poor input can only give relatively poor data. I particularly like the mention of Nanodrop/absorbance based methods for quantification. It's such a toss up if you'll get an accurate reading or what amounts to a randomly generated number, and a lot of library/sequencing related issues can be traced back to poor quant.
