    MiSeqDx

Just wondering how many are out there in the field that people are willing to admit they have...? Or is it like Bigfoot, rumors of their presence in the wild but not actually seeing them firsthand.

    Surprisingly quiet of all instruments.

At JPM Illumina announced the install base of their sequencers, but they didn't pull out the MiSeqDx #s:
    - HiSeq X = 300
    - HiSeq = 2050
    - NextSeq = 1150
    - MiSeq = 4300
    - MiSeq FGx = 45

      Sort of delayed response, but...

Hey, I have two! And I've seen a couple others in the field. Do you have questions about the Dx?

I'd be interested in hearing from other Dx owners about their experience with running these units. We've had a number of sub-systems replaced on both units; the build quality just doesn't seem as robust compared to that of the standard MiSeq (I have three of those to compare to). My "n" is pretty small, so this isn't a blanket condemnation of the Dx units.

I'm surprised it's so low. They make $120 million each quarter from less than 10,000 customers? No wonder their products are so expensive.

Consumables (and more of the same). A modest sized sequencing center can easily run-up a bill of million(s)+ each year.

The total number of instruments is so low? What would you expect it to be? They're approaching the number of Sanger-based sequencers out on the market. To reach PCR-level placements they'll have to bring the box prices down substantially <$10k? <$5k?)

Where are you getting your estimates? Illumina made $592M in revenue last quarter (mostly reagents, followed by instruments). And what makes you think they only have 10k customers? While that's roughly the number of sequencing machines they've sold, each machine surely represents many more than one customer.

Advanced Sequencing Platforms Tackle Neuroscience’s Toughest Genomics Problems
              by SEQadmin2

Genomics studies in neuroscience face a special challenge due to the brain’s complexity and scarcity of samples. Mapping changes in cell type and state using conventional next-generation sequencing methods remains challenging. Advances in technologies like single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and long-read sequencing have opened the door to deeper studies of the brain and diseases like Alzheimer’s, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and schizophrenia.

Cancer Drug Resistance: The Lingering Barrier to Rising Survival
              by SEQadmin2

Cancer survival rates have significantly increased in the last few decades in the United States, reaching a combined 70% 5-year survival rate by 2021. Behind this number, there are years of research to find new therapies, drug targets, and early detection methods. But there is one core challenge that keeps slowing down these advances, and it’s about drug resistance.

There is no single reason why many patients don’t respond to treatment as expected. Cancer is...
