    Senior Software Engineer

Location: San Francisco or Menlo Park

The successful candidate can choose to be based in our Menlo Park headquarters or our San Francisco office (with travel to Menlo Park)

Are you bored with simply contributing to yet another social networking site or fixing bugs in some large company’s search engine? Do you want to be part of a company creating cutting edge technology that is uncovering the mysteries of life itself? Pacific Biosciences is seeking a talented software engineer to write the RESTful web services supporting their SMRT (Single-Molecule Real-Time) sequence analysis software suite. The candidate will develop robust, elegant and efficient software components and APIs to rapidly develop a diversity of scientific software solutions.

    Responsibilities:
    • Design and implement foundational software layers including RESTful web-services implemented in Scala and akka for managing sequencing data, designing and executing scientific analyses and more
    • Engage in an unusually multi-disciplinary organization of software and hardware engineers, bioinformaticians, chemists, and molecular biologists developing state-of-the-art, single-molecule, genomic analysis systems.
    • Write design specifications for peer review; adhere to software development standards for coding and unit/functional test coverage.

    Position Requirements:

    • B.S. in computer science, electrical engineering or in physical science disciplines; candidates with a high level of relevant experience will also be considered.
    • Candidates with experience developing RESTful APIs are strongly preferred, especially if implemented in Scala, but also in Python or Java.
    • Experience developing reusable components, automated tests, utilizing formal software development processes and employing best practices.
    • Experience maintaining software projects under source control with git in an Agile/Scrum environment.
    • Experience in the life-sciences tools domain, especially DNA sequencing, is preferred but not required.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, sex, color, religion, national origin, protected veteran status, or on the basis of disability, gender identity, and sexual orientation.

    To Apply:

PacBio is always looking to add the best and brightest minds to our world-class company. Our highly interdisciplinary team is best suited for individuals who are creative, forward thinking, and who approach challenges with an innovative attitude.

Advanced Sequencing Platforms Tackle Neuroscience’s Toughest Genomics Problems
    by SEQadmin2

Genomics studies in neuroscience face a special challenge due to the brain’s complexity and scarcity of samples. Mapping changes in cell type and state using conventional next-generation sequencing methods remains challenging. Advances in technologies like single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and long-read sequencing have opened the door to deeper studies of the brain and diseases like Alzheimer’s, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and schizophrenia.

Cancer Drug Resistance: The Lingering Barrier to Rising Survival
    by SEQadmin2

Cancer survival rates have significantly increased in the last few decades in the United States, reaching a combined 70% 5-year survival rate by 2021. Behind this number, there are years of research to find new therapies, drug targets, and early detection methods. But there is one core challenge that keeps slowing down these advances, and it’s about drug resistance.

There is no single reason why many patients don’t respond to treatment as expected. Cancer is...
