    Fluidigm Access Array

Anyone have any experience with Access Array from Fluidigm. Claims to be able to pool 48 amplicons from 48 samples at $7 a sample. It comes in the form of a microfluidic chip and a bit of hardware?

    Anyone know pricing? I've enquired.

The complete system lists for $79K in the US and the $7 pricing is based on the cost of the chip plus reagents amortized over 48 samples.

Depends what you are looking for, if you plan on doing targeted re-sequencing for lots of samples then its a good deal since the savings in library prep and sequencing will pay for the system rather quickly.

Sure, I was just hoping it would be more like $20k!

UK pricing came through: £50k for the hardware, £230 per chip.

And I hoped our sequencer would be more like $70K

              hey,

can we use the fluidigm access array for sequencing in platforms other than illumina

Yes, it is compatible with all major platforms 454; Illumina HiSeq, and MiSeq; and Ion Torrent PGM.

Nine Things a Sample Prep Scientist Thinks About Before Sequencing
                  by SEQadmin2

I’m not a sequencing expert. I’m a purification scientist who uses NGS to evaluate workflows my group develops. With this perspective, we think about the sample first and the NGS workflow second. The sequencer is an exceptionally honest reporter, but it can only report on what you give it, so whether you get clean, interpretable data from an NGS workflow is largely determined before you begin.

Here are nine questions we think about, in roughly the order they matter, before...

From Collection to Sequencing: Why Sample Preparation and Preservation Define Sequencing Data
                  by SEQadmin2

Data variability is still an issue in sequencing technologies despite the advances in reproducibility and accuracy of these platforms. But the problem does not originate in the sequencing itself, but in the previous steps, before the sample reaches the sequencer.

The first step is collection, followed by preservation and sample preparation for analysis. Most scientists overlook those steps, but not being careful might just be skewing the experiment’s results.
