Senior Postdoc/Bioinformatician Research Fellow @ UEA, Norwich, UK

Applications are invited for the post of Bioinformatician Research Fellow to undertake a leading role in the next generation sequencing Pan-Prostate Cancer Group Initiative (http://panprostate.org) in collaboration with Dr Daniel Brewer and Professor Colin Cooper.

The Pan-Prostate Cancer Group Initiative is a collaboration of multiple major prostate cancer centres across the world designed to standardise clinical, pathological and ‘omics data to enable their combined analysis, with the aim of applying cutting-edge techniques to improve the understanding of prostate cancer and patient care. The first data release of this project will be from an unprecedented 2000 men containing whole genome sequencing, methylation, transcriptome, clinical and histopathology information.

This Research Fellow role will manage, administrate and perform analyses. You will aid the set up and validation of at least three pipelines for the uniform processing, variant calling, and secondary analysis of data from over 2000 prostate cancers based on thepractices of ICGC-PCAWG, carrying out bioinformatics research on this dataset that will address clinically relevant problems in prostate cancer. You will lead the data management of the UK part of the project and lead the bioinformatic analyses performed at UEA, and will take a major role in the dissemination of research findings and help prepare bids for research funding. Mentoring of early career colleagues and co-ordinating the work of research and other staff is also an expectation of the role.

You will have significant postdoctoral experience, a PhD degree or equivalent experience in computer science or a relevant numeric biological subject, (e.g. bioinformatics, computational biology), have a strong organisational skills and a good track record in publications. Experience of working on sequence data, next generation sequence data and/or large genomics datasets is also essential.

Seeking to promote an equitable representation of men and women among its staff, the School encourages applications from women and those from minority ethnic groups. Appointment will be made on merit.

This full-time post is offered on a fixed term basis to 31 May 2022.

    Closing date: 6th July 2020

Beyond CRISPR/Cas9: Understand, Choose, and Use the Right Genome Editing Tool
    by SEQadmin2

CRISPR/Cas9 sparked the gene editing revolution for both research and therapeutics.1 But this system still showed severe issues that limited its applications. The most prominent were the heavy reliance on PAM sequences, delivery limitations, double-stranded breaks that prompt unintended edits and cell death, and editing inefficiency (both in targeting and in knock-in reliability).

Despite this, “CRISPR helped turn genome editing from a specialized technique into

Proteomic Platforms: How to Choose the Right Analytical Strategy to Improve Detection and Clinical Applications
    by SEQadmin2

Proteomics platforms are evolving rapidly, with advances in mass spectrometry and affinity-based approaches expanding what researchers can detect and at what scale. As the field moves toward deeper proteome coverage and clinical applications, scientists face an increasingly complex landscape of tools. This article will explore how researchers are navigating these choices to find the right platform for their work.

The systematic characterization of the human proteome has
