Sequencing through the insert

Hi I am wondering how common it is for libraries to sequence through the adapter and run out of nucleotide to sequence like in this Illumina video. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkMiy5lGIqs)

Is it recommended to analyze the size of you library prior to deciding on read lengths?

Yes, you definitely want to QC your library for the fragment lengths before sequencing using a Bioanalyzer or equivalent devices.
