Bioinformatics research position at Yale University School of Medicine

The Program in Neurodevelopment and Regeneration at Yale University School of Medicine Medicine (http://medicine.yale.edu/neurodevelopment/), a multidisciplinary research group, seeks a bioinformatician to lead data analyses for high throughput RNA sequence data. The Program is involved in analyses of genes, transcripts and biological events in individuals with neuropsychiatric disorders and induced pluripotent stem cells models. The level of the position will be commensurate with training and experience.

    Responsibilities:

Pipeline development and implementation (including quality control, troubleshooting and optimization) for RNA sequence data. Specific tasks include computation and analyses of level of transcripts as well as analysis of splice variants.

The role will involve working as part of the Program team to run pipelines and deliver analytical outputs. The applicant will be expected to work and consult with colleagues concerning issues of data analysis and interpretation.

    Requirements:

PhD in Bioinformatics, Physics, Statistics or related field
Experience in applied bioinformatics in a research environment
Ability to work independently within a research team
Experience in analysis of high throughput RNA sequence data
Programming skills (MATLAB, R or related)

    Preferences:
Critical thinking skills and familiarity with statistics (e.g. statistical distributions, significance tests, basic inference), and ability to apply them to diagnose and correct problems with pipeline implementations or downstream analyses.
Experience in developing workflows for sequencing data
Experience with high performance computing in Linux environment
Ability to multitask and work to tight timelines

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
    by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
    by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
