    Upgraded Illumina HiSeq Chemistry

I recently heard a rumor that Illumina is about to introduce a new chemistry that will allow for 2x300bp output. I can't seem to find any more information about it and was wondering if any one else had heard the same thing. I am very interested in learning more about this and would like any information on the topic.

They have been sitting at 100bp reads for a long time. I would not expect a jump to 300 any time soon. You might have heard about 2x150, or 300 cycle hi seq chemistry.

300bp reads would most likely be on the Miseq first due to the small cycle time.

They've recently mentioned 2x300bp for the MiSeq in the 2nd half of 2013.

        MiSeq

With the upgrade they are selling 500 cycle kits to run a 2x250 base run (with index). Haven't run it yet because we are using up our stock of v1 kits first.

is this only in 2500 fast mode?

            MiSeq not HiSeq

This is for the MiSeq right now-not the HiSeq. I don't think the HiSeq 2500 is going beyond 2 x 150

FWIW, at the recent Boston Illumina Users' Group Meeting in October, my memory is that 2x150 in rapid mode on the 2500 is the only longer chemistry on HiSeq that was discussed; when queried about 2x150 in standard mode or longer than 2x150 in rapid mode, the Illumina reps were not encouraging speculation that anything like that would be available soon.
