A neat feature of SAMTools is that if a BAM file & it's corresponding .bai index file is accessible by FTP or HTTP then random access to that file is possible over the net.
I was wondering how many such files are out there. Nils was kind enough yesterday to put the index up for the BFAST alignments of U87MG and the 1000 genomes project has their BAM files available in a similar manner.
Apparently SRA can have BAM datasets, though I haven't looked there & they would need the index to work in this.
I'm particularly interested in human & mouse datasets (is the Watson assembly available as BAM? Complete Genomics' public data as BAM?) for my intern's current project, but would be curious to find any that are out there.
thanks in advance!
