  • Sequence alignment question Help Please Urgent!

Align the glucagon sequences for human (NM_002054.4) , cow (NM_173916.3) and chicken(Y07539.1). Nucleotide sequences
Find the conserved region that includes SRRAQDFVQWLM. Immediately after this what is asparagine substituted for in the chicken?

    Options

    1) glutamate
    2) serine
    3) glycine
    4) proline

This sounds suspiciously like a homework question.

aka aspartate. Clearly a trick question, since that's not one of the options.

So the answer is proline but after aligning the sequences and finding the conserved region how did you come to the conclusion that asparate is proline.
Can you send me a link that explains this. Thank you.

The single letter code for Aspartate is 'D'.

              Makes perfect sense to me.

How can the answer be aspartate if its not one of the options?

                  (sigh) You really don't understand?

mnkyboy said the answer was D (which is also not one of your options); D is the single-letter code for aspartate. It was a joke (indicated by ).

Tortoise: 'MU? What is this 'MU'? What about the dog? What about Buddha-nature? What's the answer?

Achilles: Oh, but 'MU' is Joshu's answer. By saying 'MU', Joshu let the other monk know that only by not asking such questions can one know the answer to them.

                    Tortoise: Joshu "unasked" the question.

                    Achilles: Exactly!

Tortoise: 'MU' sounds like a handy thing to have around. I'd like unask a question or two, sometimes. I guess I'm beginning to get the hang of Zen.
The answer is 'mu' (or D - Aspartate).

Aww, you guys are teasing the teenager.

This is a site for grown-ups. People are amusing themselves at your expense. So go do your own homework.

BAMseek, I'm sure you confused revision even more (but I appreciate the Hofstadter quote).

Yeah, that is probably true (and I'm glad someone knows what I am talking about).

I think you may get some more (serious) responses if you are upfront that it is a homework assignment, and you try to explain how far you have gotten with the problem. Then people may be able to nudge you in the right direction. People here are always willing to help, but I think only after they've seen you tried putting in the work yourself.

                              by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

                              by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
