The Simons Foundation in New York City is seeking a Bioinformatics Analyst/
Engineer to fill a full-time position in its informatics team.
The foundation supports a diverse research portfolio in autism, life sciences,
mathematics and physics, with an annual budget of about $200 million.
It offers a vibrant and intellectually stimulating work environment to its staff—
currently numbering 75, but steadily growing—in Manhattan’s Flatiron district.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop and operate computational pipelines for next generation
sequencing data. Work will include both large-scale projects and small custom
tasks and will span a wide variety of analysis problems. The ideal candidate
will have extensive knowledge of computational genomics and experience
with high-throughput data analysis.
Requirements:
Masters Degree (or higher) in Bioinformatics, Computational Science or related
field, and 2-3 years of experience.
• Experience with next-generation sequencing data
• Experience in Linux/Unix cluster environment
• Advanced programming skills in Python/Java. Familiarity with C++, Perl, Matlab and R desirable
• Strong background in algorithm development, statistical methods, machine learning, or distributed computing
• Familiarity with databases—relational and noSQL—cloud computing, and web
services desirable
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
