  • Covaris M220

Has anyone purchased and used a Covaris M220 yet? I am wondering specifically for use in shearing for 454 FLX Plus Rapid Library preps. I have a several projects coming up with large numbers of RL+ libraries and am starting to look for an alternative to nebulization.

    Thanks!

    Hi LAH,

The Covaris M220 is a new personal DNA fragmentation system launched at the AGBT this year.
I think it will be a great idea for you to evaluate the M220 in your lab with your DNA samples. Covaris at the moment has a 14 day no questions asked evaluation without the need to submit a PO or leave a credit card. You can find out more at http://covarisinc.com/products/afa-u...tion/m-series/
The installation and setup for use is very simple and easy. It takes less than 10 minutes to install, and the instrument is ready to use within 5 minute of the installation.
The optimized settings for shearing sizes of 150bp to 5kb can be found at http://covarisinc.com/wp-content/uploads/pn_010166.pdf

    Thank you

      Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
      by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

      Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
      by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
