  • Scientific Programmer - Resequencing Informatics EBI, Hinxton, Cambridge

The Vertebrate Genomics Team and the European Genome-phenome Archive (EGA) at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) seek an experienced and motivated bioinformatician to join our resequencing informatics effort, in particular to develop and deploy data analysis methods and processing pipelines for our growing collection of human disease data sets resulting from large-scale exome and whole genome sequencing projects. These data represent some of the most comprehensive ever collected for biological and disease research and their analysis requires significantly creative approaches.

The Vertebrate Genomics Team at the EBI is an international hub of human variation data as its major projects include the 1000 Genomes data coordination centre, the European Genotype Archive, and the Ensembl project. The EBI is part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and is located on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus at Hinxton, near Cambridge, UK.

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
