  • firefox 2 chrome experiences?

Hi, I have been using Firefox for years. I heard the news about google only supporting mozilla for another 3 years, so i wondered if most bioinformatic tools that rely on firefox would still work or run into compatibility issues?
Anybody who has experience with this ?
    Thanks for your thoughts!

I use chrome almost exclusively and rarely have a problem.

Truth is if there is an incompatibility you have to do the unspeakable and use Explorer.

There are massive incompatibilities between the various browsers. See charts here:

        for HTML5 examples. or here:

        for Web video support comparisons.

That said, there's a reasonable subset of compatibility and many differences can be reconciled using a javascript libraries (for example jquery ).

Every vendor would like to embrace and extend a standard and have developers only support their version (and hence become a monopoly supplier). Good developers have been reluctant to commit to vendor specific enhancements and generally target multi-browser support.

There's a good likelihood that this situation will remain for quite a while in the browser market.

That said, there's a strong movement for vendor specific apps tied to the web: Apple's "apps" and Google Android "apps". Some users and proprietary content providers seem to embrace such a situation; but many developers and users wary of getting "locked down" are cautious. The decades of Microsoft's hegemony over the computer market remains cautionary. The only way to support both Android and iPhone platforms, right now, is via html5 based browser support.

        bottom line is ....
        ____________

Mult-browser support and functional compatibility looks solid for next few years.

Please outline some tools that 'rely' on Firefox.

            Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
            by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

            Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
            by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
