  • Postdoc Position in Bioinformatics

The Institute of Plant Biology of the University of Zürich specializes in the investigation of molecular aspects of plant physiology, plant development, and plant-environment interactions. The laboratory of Prof. U. Grossniklaus focuses on the study of the genetic and epigenetic basis of sexual plant reproduction and apomixis, increasingly by using systems biology approaches.

We are looking for a committed bioinformatics expert with genuine interest in basic research. In the project you will be involved in the analysis of transcriptional and epigenetic changes that occur during an phenotypic transition in a non-model plant. Your key responsibility will be the evaluation and analysis of data obtained from next generation sequencing experiments at the genomic, transcriptomic and epigenomic level.

    Your qualifications:
    • PhD in biology with a specialization in bioinformatics
    • Experience in the evaluation of raw data from next generation sequencing experiments
    • Proficiency in English with excellent communication skills

    Our offer:
    • A full time position with a competitive salary for 2 years
    • Intellectual participation in an exciting area of modern biology
    • Highly flexible working times
    • A dynamic, multinational working environment, located in the beautiful Botanical Garden of Zürich

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
