We are looking at doing RNAseq on around 36 samples we have extracted and want to outsource the library prep. I have shopped around a little and everything seems to be above $200. Does anyone know of any "economy" services that are a little less expensive. Thanks in advance.

We can come close: $220 for 24+ Stranded RNASeq libraries. We still do full QC on the starting RNA and use the Illumina prep kits, along with full QC and qPCR on the final library pool for optimal loading. Are you with University of Illinois Chicago?

It looks like you can get prep for $223 per sample with 8 or more samples at the University of Texas Genomic Sequencing and Analysis Facility. I have worked with them for over 3 years on various projects as a postdoc at UT and while at Bioo Scientific and they are top-notch.
Also, you may want to consider doing the preps yourself, or finding a lab that would collaborate to do the preps there. If you use a kit from a less expensive company than Illumina (Bioo Scientific, Kapa, NEB, and others), you can prepare your libraries for well under $100 each.

If you have a lot of samples (>24), which is in good quality and easy to handle, you can negotiate for some discount, for example, libraries for less than $200. However, if you are handling challenging samples, such as FFPE, degraded, low input, you can hardly get such a price. We usually offer a generous discount for new customers.
