    Map of Users

Is there any way to make a map of the Seqanswers Members? Anthony Fejes has a neat one, or even a google map would be cool.

    Just an idea...

Could dump all the "location" entries, then automate a google->long/lat. There is a lot of junk entered in that field though.

Not a bad idea. I can get you the data if you can push it forward.

I could use a break in my work - send over the data and I'll try tossing something together.

Thanks Spenthil, share the code if you end up writing something.

So I just realized I have this map from Google Analytics, will post it asap.

Alternatively, if we could find a ip->location lookup service we could toss in all the apache logs.

The user location field was a bad idea...

ECO - I did some geolocation stuff in a past life, should be able to toss something together pretty quickly (and ya, user location probably isn't that accurate). Send over the data if you want me to give it a go.

Also, I'll be sure to post up instructions on how I did it.

Put some of the Analytics maps up here: http://seqanswers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4211

If you want to see more, let me know.

It would be pretty cool to have a realtime visualization of daily visitors...

Love this - good data definitely starts from good input, and poor input can only give relatively poor data. I particularly like the mention of Nanodrop/absorbance based methods for quantification. It's such a toss up if you'll get an accurate reading or what amounts to a randomly generated number, and a lot of library/sequencing related issues can be traced back to poor quant.

I’m not a sequencing expert. I’m a purification scientist who uses NGS to evaluate workflows my group develops. With this perspective, we think about the sample first and the NGS workflow second. The sequencer is an exceptionally honest reporter, but it can only report on what you give it, so whether you get clean, interpretable data from an NGS workflow is largely determined before you begin.

Here are nine questions we think about, in roughly the order they matter, before...
