    Build an open source exascale platform to cure cancer and genetic diseases

    Job Description

    We’re building a free and open source software platform for managing, analyzing, and sharing genomic and other biomedical big data.

    (Don't worry, you don’t need to know any biology or genetics for this job.)

    The platform, Arvados (also on GitHub), will provide the computational and storage infrastructure for precision medicine -- health care that leverages the analysis of biomedical data to prevent, diagnose, and treat disease.

    If you join us, you’ll be working on a small, agile team with other senior developers tackling problems such as distributed storage, computation management, MapReduce, in-memory real-time queries, cloud computing, and a variety of other technical challenges. We try to use the best tools and technologies for the job at hand and program in a variety of languages including Go, Ruby, C, Python, etc.

    Skills & Requirements

    We’re looking for generalists who like to take on lots of different challenges. We want developers with experience creating large-scale distributed computing, storage, and data management systems used in production. Great coding, technical problem solving, and communication skills are all important to us. We also value open source community experience. We want to work with people who thrive in a meritocracy, enjoy learning new technologies, and want to have a positive impact in the world.

    Love this - good data definitely starts from good input, and poor input can only give relatively poor data. I particularly like the mention of Nanodrop/absorbance based methods for quantification. It's such a toss up if you'll get an accurate reading or what amounts to a randomly generated number, and a lot of library/sequencing related issues can be traced back to poor quant.
