PerkinElmer just released a set of 1,536 NEXTFLEX® UDI Adapters for very high-throughput multiplexing on Illumina® flow cells. Expertly designed to allow both high- and low-level multiplexing, these barcodes can also be used for index partitioning among different applications or groups at a shared facility. The use of adapters with unique dual indices improves data integrity by correctly removing mis-assigned reads. To ensure quality, every lot is functionally validated and tested for index purity by sequencing. Available off-the-shelf, this set of 1,536 barcodes is available for next day delivery.

Data variability is still an issue in sequencing technologies despite the advances in reproducibility and accuracy of these platforms. But the problem does not originate in the sequencing itself, but in the previous steps, before the sample reaches the sequencer.
The first step is collection, followed by preservation and sample preparation for analysis. Most scientists overlook those steps, but not being careful might just be skewing the experiment’s results.
