does heat-treatment (for covid inactivation) of Oragene saliva DNA kits alter DNA met

Has anyone heat-treated Oragene DNA saliva collection kits and done downstream DNA methylation analysis on the extracted DNA? Any evidence of an effect on DNA methylation?

While DNA Genotek say their lysis reagent is sufficient to inactivate ~99% of coronavirus, they suggest additional precautionary heat treatment (72 degree pre-incubation for up to 3 hours OR MORE RECENTLY increasing the current 50 degree incubation step to 56 degrees). We collect these samples for DNA methylation analysis so don't want to do anything that will alter DNA methylation profiles.
Since the cells are already lysed by this point, we don't think that heat treatment will affect the covalent bonds, but would like to gather some opinions.

    Thank you!
