    SUMMARY:
    The Bioinformatics Analyst I will:
    • Work with a highly-collaborative interdisciplinary team developing a novel method of sequencing the Mycobacterium tuberculosis transcriptome in complex human samples.
    • Work closely with the Principal Investigators to analyze bacterial and human genomic and transcriptomic datasets.
    • Complete tasks including, but are not limited to, performing primary analysis of next-generation sequence data in a Linux computing environment, testing hypotheses using various statistical tests, creating summary reports, generating visualizations of experimental results using a range of software tools and presenting results in team settings.

    The Bioinformatics Analyst III will:
    • Lead bioinformatics projects.

    The ideal candidate will have strong experience with R programming and/or the ability to write custom code (i.e. Perl, Python or similar).


    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Collaborates with and supports scientists in the area of bioinformatics analysis.

    2. Assist with the design and development of major bioinformatics-related programming projects.

    3. Writes custom scripts to access databases and analyze data.

    4. Writes custom web tools for scientists.

    5. Assists with the preparation and teaching of courses and/or demonstrations on the use of bioinformatics tools.

    6. Develops and uses gene/protein functional annotation tools and programs.


    REQUIREMENTS:
    Analyst I
    Education

    Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and/or life sciences required. Masters of Science degree or PhD in Bioinformatics, computer science and/or life sciences preferred.


    Work Experience
    Zero (0) to two (2) years of recent and related experience required.

    Analyst III
    Education

    Master's degree in computer science and/or life sciences required. PhD in Bioinformatics, computer science and/or life sciences is preferred.

    Experience
    A minimum of five (5) years of recent and related experience required.
    - or - Any equivalent combination of Education and/or Experience
