  • post-doctoral position in NGS data analysis for cancer study

A post-doctoral research position in next generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis is available at Purdue University. The successful applicant will apply and develop computational and statistical tools to analyze both whole genome DNA sequencing data and transcriptome RNA sequencing data of paired tumor-normal tissue samples from cancer patients. The goal is to identify alternative splicing sites and isoforms and discover their association with the disease.

This postdoctoral researcher will work with the group of Dr. Yuan (Alan) Qi and a research group in the pharmaceutical industry.

We are looking for a candidate with a background in NGS data analysis and functional genomics. Expertise in NGS data analysis must be demonstrated; programming skills for practical applications and proficiency in handling massive genomic sequence data is strongly desirable. The appointment is for 1 year, renewable contingent upon funding and satisfactory progress.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Please send a CV, including a list of three references by Email to Prof. Yuan (Alan) Qi ([email protected]), Departments of CS, Statistics, and Biology, Purdue University, 305 N. University Street,
    West Lafayette, IN 47907, USA.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
