Postdoctoral Position in Computational Genomics at the Johns Hopkins University
A postdoctoral position is available at the Johns Hopkins department of Oncology. The position is affiliated with the Center for Systems Biology of Retrotransposition (CSBR). The successful applicant will work under the mentorship of Kathleen Burns, MD, PhS, and Sarah Wheelan, MD, PhD. and will primarily work on analysis of high throughput sequencing data, including but not restricted to RNAseq, whole genome sequencing, and ChIPseq. The work will require development of new algorithms to find genomic rearrangements and new junctions in a unique experimental system. Working with several collaborators throughout Hopkins and in various departments will expose the fellow to many different applications of high throughput sequencing and will require the fellow to develop flexible, innovative, and tailored solutions to a wide range of experimental problems.
The PIs have strong research and teaching connections with the HiT (High Throughput Biology) center in the Johns Hopkins University, the Next Generation Sequencing Center in the JHU department of Oncology, and the Department of Biostatistics in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Wheelan is also a founding member of the Center for Computational Genomics, which is a multidisciplinary, highly interactive, and supportive environment for solving biological problems that involve high-dimensional data. The fellow will also be strongly encouraged to undertake an independent research program.
Qualifications:
The ideal applicants should have
PhD in a biological science or computer science
Solid programming skills (a scripting language such as Perl or Python, a statistical analysis environment such as R, and optionally one or more compiled languages)
A publication record in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics or related fields.
Creativity, enthusiasm, and excellent communication skills.
Statistics expertise preferred
