    Bioinformatics Scientist- Req. #587

    OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

    As a member of the Genome Annotation Team, you will perform comprehensive genome annotation, annotation quality assurance and data analysis tasks, and utilize, design and develop bioinformatics tools and protocols for genome annotation and data analysis. The position will be filled as Bioinformatics Analyst or Bioinformatics Scientist, depending on the qualification and experience.

    CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

    • Annotate a wide range of genomes using production annotation pipelines and related bioinformatics and computational techniques and concepts.

    • Perform annotation data quality assurance and validation on the output of the production annotation pipelines and ensure that all annotation objectives are met as required by the project.

    • Utilize various computational analysis tools and biological interpretation of results to review existing annotations and propose improvements.

    • Evaluate and test third party annotation and analysis tools; Design, develop, refine and improve bioinformatics tools for the interpretation, analysis, data-mining, synthesis and integration of large genomic data sets.

    • Perform other related responsibilities as necessitated by the position or as assigned by the Manager

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Ph. D. degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, microbiology, genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science or related fields
    • At least 2 years experience annotating and analyzing genomic data
    • Advanced skills in one or more of shell script, Perl, Python, Java or Ruby
    • Proficient in SQL and/or HQL
    • Ability to process a large amount of genomic data efficiently
    • Solid science background
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills
    • Knowledge of bioinformatics concepts, methods, and tools
    • Familiarity with genomic data, tools and databases
    • Strong initiative and ability to take ownership of assigned tasks and projects
    • Demonstrated attention to detail and analytical skills
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
