Default genome aligner output in sam format

Hi,
might be an easy question but can all genome aligners output the aligned reads in the SAM format? If not, any converter that can convert to sam format?

Thanks

Carol

Aligners meant for NGS data will output SAM (thought blast apparently has fledgling support for this in new versions). You can always use samtools to manipulate SAM/BAM files.
