Asking for guidence

Newly registered and saying hello!

I'm rather new to the field of bioinformatics. I have academic background in natural sciences and informatics, but I've recently found a new job with a data-analytic startup, and I've been asked to familiarize myself with some bio-papers. Is this a good forum to ask more basic biology and chemistry questions with reference to particular papers? E.g. trying to understand the data-format used by authors, or some field-specific terms? Which subforum would be best for that?

For general question related to biology you may want to post on Biology stackexchange. This forum is mainly focused on next generation sequencing. If your questions are related to that then they can be posted in "Bioinformatics" subforum.
