  • Positions for Bioinformatics RA and Postdoc at University of Macau

Positions for Bioinformatics Research Assistant and Post-Doctoral Research Fellow.
The University of Macau is expanding and has adopted a number of new strategic initiatives including the establishment of a new life science research faculty - The Faculty of Health Sciences (https://fhs.umac.mo). The new faculty focuses on research areas such as Cancer, Development and Aging, Molecular Medicine, Immunology and Infectious Diseases, Neuron-degenerative Diseases.

We are inviting applications for several positions of Bioinformatics Research Assistant and post-doctoral research fellow to join the laboratory of Dr. Chris Wong (https://fhs.umac.mo/staff/academic-s...-koon-ho-wong/) and the Genomics and Bioinformatics Core of the faculty. The successful candidates will use functional and computational genomics approaches to study whole-genome transcription factor binding, transcriptome and chromatin regulations in the contexts of fungal physiology and pathogenesis and will provide Bioinformatics supports to research of the faculty. The candidates will have the opportunity to develop novel analysis pipelines for NGS data and to analyze data of advanced Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) applications such as ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, ribosomal profiling, single cell genomics, etc.

    Requirements
    • Bachelor of Science, MPhil or PhD in bioinformatics, statistics, computer science, or other related fields.
    • Strong programming skills: Python, Perl, C, C++, Java, R, Matlab or other related programming knowledge.
    • Excellent skills in handling genomic databases.
    • Solid knowledge in computational genomics.
    • Strong quantitative and statistics background.
    • Ability to work on Linux environment.
    • Ability to perform multi-threaded programs.
    • Any experience in next-generation sequencing analysis will be valued.
    • Knowledge in both microarray and NGS analysis is a plus.

Applicants should send full curriculum and names and contact information (e-mail and telephone numbers) of three references to:
Chris Koon Ho Wong ([email protected]).

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
