  • Yours truly speaking at Bay Area Bioinformatics Meetup 5/25

    Late notice, I know.

But if you're in the Bay Area (California), and want to come meet some local folks, I have been asked to speak at the monthly meetup for the Bay Area Bioinformatics group (meetup link here).

The talk will be (when I'm done putting it together!) a broad overview of NGS technologies, and a review of some of the cool resources we have here.

The meetup is at PacBio HQ in Menlo Park...so respond to the meetup, or post here. I'm looking forward to meeting people!

Thanks to all that attended, talk went well (at least I didn't pass out!). I had a great time and met a bunch of really nice people who had nothing but nice things to say about this community.

My slides are attached to this post....enjoy.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
        by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

        Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
        by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
