We currently have an Early Stage Researcher (ESR) position for a PhD Thesis available for 3 years of duration in the core bioinformatic team of Biotechvana.
The Thesis project entitled "Integrative genomics/proteomics of yeast infections" belongs to the H2020 Marie Curie ETN Project "From Omics to Patient: Improving Diagnostics of Pathogenic Yeasts (OPATHY)" and will be supervised by Dr Carlos Llorens (Biotechvana), and Dr Toni Gabaldon (Centre for Genomic Regulation). The main objetive for this particular ESR project consists of developing the computational infrastructure for the integrative analysis of disparate highthroughput methodologies (i.e. genomics and proteomics). This includes the development of a database (OPATHY Database) and different bioinformatics tools and pipelines for storing and analyzing relevant omicS data and metadata to enable data-driven discoveries of new biomarkers of yeast infections by mapping transcriptomics and/or proteomics data. The ESR will also BE enroled in bioinformatic tasks related with the analysis of data.
Applicants should hold a Master's degree (or equivalent) in Bioinformatics, Computational Sciences, Physics, or Biological Sciences. The ESR candidate must have demonstrated programming skills in Php and previous experience in development of SQL databases, in particular MySQL and Wikis.Experience in other programming/scripting languages, Particularly Python or JAva would be an advantage, as would also be previous knowledge of molecular biology and/or NGS analysis. The ESR should be comfortable developing software in a primarily Unix-based environment, and be familiar with development tools such as CVS.We are looking for highly motivated PhD candidate with good communication and interpersonal skills. Furthermore, candidates should demonstrate solid problem solving skills, excellent attention to detail, and a desire to work in an international environment. Good English language skills are a requirement.
More details, and information on how to apply, please visit the OPATHY webpage (http://www.opathy.eu/content/application-procedure) or contact Dr Carlos Llorens at Biotechvana ( [email protected]) or Toni Gabaldon ([email protected]) at CRG.
