  • Postdoctoral/Informatics Specialist Position in Bioinformatics, Mayo Clinic

    Link: https://www.iscb.org/cms_addon/jobs/...ls.php?id=5053

Dr. Junwen John Wang’s lab (http://jjwanglab.org) at Mayo Clinic Arizona is recruiting outstanding candidates for Postdoc/Informatics Specialist I/II positions in bioinformatics and computational genomics. The lab is affiliated with Department of Health Sciences Research and Center for Individualized Medicine, Mayo Clinic Arizona and Department of Biomedical Informatics, Arizona State University. We currently focus on two main areas: 1) integrative analysis of multi-dimensional OMICs data for gene regulatory network inference, 2) function annotation of genetic variants, particularly these in the noncoding regulatory regions. The lab is also actively collaborating with cancer biologists and clinicians on data analysis in ChIP-seq, RNA-seq and WGS/WES (Whole Genome/Exome Sequencing).

    The candidate will
    1. Develop algorithms, databases and web servers for bioinformatics methodology development in the above two areas.
    2. Analyze and interpret large OMICs data (ChIP-seq, RNA-seq and WGS/WES) provided by our collaborators.
    3. Develop methods to integrate multiple OMICs data (eg ChIP-seq+RNA-seq, RNA-seq+WGS) for function inference.
    4. Work with our collaborators for NGS analysis pipeline development and result interpretation.
    Requirements
    1. PhD/MS degree in Quantitative Sciences (Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or Biostatistics etc.) with some biology knowledge, or PhD/MS in Biomedical Sciences with programming experience (python/perl/java/c/c++ and R).
    2. Can work collaboratively and independently.
    3. Experience with at least two of the following key words is preferred: HMM, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, WGS, WES, PCA, gene regulatory networks, genetic variants annotation/prioritization, deep learning, machine learning, data mining.

    Benefits
    1. Working on cutting edge technology, with great career perspectives.
    2. Ample opportunities to collaborate with clinicians and basic scientists.
    3. Access to Mayo’s comprehensive clinic datasets/clinic samples.
    4. Mayo clinic is among the top 100 companies to work with by Fortune magazine.
    5. Competitive salary, the position for Postdoc is up to 3 years and for Specialist is up to 5 years.
    6. Access to both Mayo clinic and ASU biomedical informatics resources.
    7. US Citizen/permanent resident is encouraged to apply for Mayo Cancer genetic epidemiology training program.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
