  • problem for running samtools

    hi..
i download, extract and then install the software, samtools. I install by putting 'make' command. It had installed it successfully but for running I found to export the path. But I am not finding any such directory of /share/apps/samtools in my linux(fedora) version. So where the executable file are saved? and how i can find that?.. plz help me out, it is urgent...

    thank u

    Hi vinila,
By typing make you just compile the program, you do not actually install it. Instead the code in which it was written is translated in computer language. Some programs do offer a make install option (but I'm not sure for samtools). In any case you may put your program in a path that is stated in the .profile file in your home folder.

So, if you just typed make and there was no error, the executable program should be in the same directory as the code files. You may then move it using the "mv" command. Very likely you would like to put it under /usr/bin

    Hope that thelps,

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
        by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

        Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
        by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
