  • New workshops from UC Davis Bioinformatics Coreworkshop

We've added a few more workshops to our schedule! Two upcoming introductory workshops will help you get off to a good start.

Introduction to the Command Line for Bioinformatics
    June 1, 2, and 4, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Three sessions of intensive work on the command line for biologists, to get you started with the basics of the command line for bioinformatics experiments, including RNA-Seq, genome assembly, GWAS, and more.
Registration fees are $300 for current UC students, faculty, and staff, $450 for other academic and non-profit, and $600 for other participants.

    Introduction to R for Bioinformatics
    June 7, 9, and 11, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
An introduction to R in three sessions, from basic data types, to R notebooks and visualizations. Intended for biologists with little to no data analysis experience.
Registration fees are $300 for current UC students, faculty, and staff, $450 for other academic and non-profit, and $600 for other participants.

    RNA-Seq Analysis
    June 14 - June 18, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
This five-day online workshop includes one day of introductory material, and four days of focused, in-depth coursework on RNA-seq, including experimental design, data generation, and analysis. Participants will explore an RNA-Seq experiment using the command line and R, create and modify workflows, and diagnose and treat problematic data utilizing high performance computing services.
Registration fees are $1,000 for current UC students, faculty, and staff, $1,200 for other academic and non-profit, and $1,700 for other participants.

...And more, including single cell RNA-Seq, and metagenomics! For more information, visit our registration site. If you would like to look at the documentation from previous workshops, see https://bioinformatics.ucdavis.edu/t...documentation/.

Recent Advances in Sequencing Analysis Tools
    by seqadmin

The sequencing world is rapidly changing due to declining costs, enhanced accuracies, and the advent of newer, cutting-edge instruments. Equally important to these developments are improvements in sequencing analysis, a process that converts vast amounts of raw data into a comprehensible and meaningful form. This complex task requires expertise and the right analysis tools. In this article, we highlight the progress and innovation in sequencing analysis by reviewing several of the...

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...
