Default Scientific Programmers - Crop and viral genomics

We are looking for two Scientific Programmers to join the Computational Genomics group at The Genome Analysis Centre (TGAC). The Computational Genomics group focuses on the assembly of complex genomes and detection of genetic variation in plant, animal and viral populations.

One post is within the Crop Genomics team which has a focus on developing and running pipelines to analyse next generation sequencing data for crop samples. The post-holder will work with collaborators to develop databases to display plant genomic, variation and population data, with an initial focus on brassica species.

The other post is within the Viral genomics team, which works with next generation sequencing data for viral samples. The post-holder will work with collaborators to understand and analyse data from viral samples to identify variants and explore how viral composition of populations changes over time through analysis of transmission study data.

The successful candidates will have an MSc or PhD in computer science or bioinformatics, and experience working with next generation sequence data, preferably with plants/viruses.
