Post-Doctoral Fellowship – Integrated Cancer Genomics
The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) is a non‐profit biomedical research institute based in Phoenix, Arizona, focused on research that can help patients with cancer, neurological disorders, diabetes and other debilitating conditions. Working with a worldwide network of collaborators in the scientific and medical communities, TGen researchers study the genetic components of both common and complex diseases. Through genomic analysis, we learn how DNA, genes and proteins – the microscopic building block of life – can affect human health. Our 30 lead investigators and nearly 200 support personnel at sites in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Flagstaff, Arizona, are dedicated to improving patient care and quality of life through precision medicine, best defined as the right therapy, for the right patient, at the right time. For more information, visit: www.tgen.org.

    Job Summary
Individuals with experience in cancer genetics or a background in cancer biology, particularly leukemia/lymphoma/myeloma, are invited to apply for post-doctoral position in the Keats Lab. The lab is focused on the genetics of Multiple Myeloma, a cancer of the antibody producing plasma cell. Currently the lab is coordinating an observational clinical trial with 1000 newly diagnosed patients that are being extensively characterized using next-generation sequencing approaches. The trial will be fully accrued in the summer of 2015 and we are looking for individuals who are interested in the analysis of this dataset. The lab also houses an extensive collection of highly characterized model systems that can be used to validate observations in the patient cohort. Experience with the analysis of next-generation sequencing data is not required but applicants with experience are preferred.

    Job Qualification
PhD graduate in molecular biology and/or biochemistry with a focus on cancer.
Previous research experience or training in the fields of cancer biology or equivalent area.
Experience with the analysis of next-generation sequencing data preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    To Apply
If you are interested in applying, please go to careers.tgen.org and submit your resume for this position (IRC10846). Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
