  • SMRT Leiden Conference - May 7 - 9, 2019 - Symposium & Developers Meeting

You're invited to the fourth annual SMRT Leiden Meeting hosted by the Leiden University Medical Center. The meeting features two back-to-back events:

    May 7 – 8, 2019
SMRT Scientific Conference: Changing the World, One Molecule at a Time! is a two-day symposium featuring key experts and opinion leaders sharing scientific discoveries and novel analytical achievements using PacBio Sequencing platforms.

    May 9, 2019
SMRT Informatics Developers Conference is a collaborative event to develop and improve data analysis tools for SMRT Sequencing technology. The conference provides a forum for learning and in-person brainstorming with software developers, users, and the bioinformatics community on a variety of applications enabled by SMRT Sequencing.

    Keynote speakers:
    • Euan Ashley, FRCP, DPhil, Stanford University, USA
    • Evan Eichler, Ph.D, University of Washington, USA
    • Gene Myers, Ph.D., Max Planck Institute, Germany
    • Janet Song, Ph.D. Candidate, Stanford School of Medicine, USA
    • Kateryna Makova, Ph.D., Penn State University, USA
    • Mara Lawniczak, Ph.D, Wellcome Sanger Institute, UK
    • Paul Hebert, Ph.D., University of Guelph, Canada

These events are free and open to all members of the scientific community. Want to share your research? Abstract submission deadline is March 31.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
